Database Under Review.
The database has over time undergone changes in both content and design, as the IPDS has been developed for the Fire and Rescue Service. As new standards have been developed, it has not always been possible to include them onto the database, due in part to the pace of change, and the resources available to do this.
A new National Strategy Group reporting to the IPDS Project Board, comprising of members from Scotland, Northern Ireland, England, and chaired by a secondee from the Welsh Assembly, have been tasked to assess and as necessary correct the existing content. They have also been asked by the Project Board to oversee the cross mapping of the 90 Development Modules to the Technical Fire Safety and Fire Investigation Standards.
When this has been completed the Project Board will consider further additions to the database, depending on what the Fire Industry may require. As a first step to determine this, a FINDS message was sent in June to all Training and Development Managers. The Project Board are hopeful that contacts can be established to gain their support for this work, and to give an opportunity for them to contribute to the future of this national tool.
Whilst changes are being made the database will continue to be available for use, and will look and respond as it does at present.
As coordinator of the new Learning & Development Database Strategy Group, I would be happy to discuss any aspect of this work with you.
